Minimal Requirements for Field Positions
Applicants for all positions must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, possess good math, reading, writing, and organizational skills, and enjoy working unassisted as well as in a team. In addition, applicants must have the ability to work in a variety of environments, climb ladders, work on elevated platforms, work in constrained spaces, and lift 50 pounds unassisted.
Summary Job Descriptions
Lead Technicians install and maintain communications cabling systems, telephone systems, audio-visual systems, and wireless networks. Lead Technicians are generally responsible for a variety of cable installation projects, ensure appropriate equipment and supplies are available for projects, supervise Technicians and Apprentices relative to Company policies and practices, and interface with customers on a regular basis. A minimum 5 years experience with installation of copper & fiber optic communication cable plants, and telecommunication equipment, and an excellent driving record are required.
Service Electrician's work with commercial/industrial accounts providing installation and maintenance of branch circuitry, conduit, and communication cabling, both copper and fiber optic. Applicants must have a Journeyman's Electrician's card with a minimum of 3 years experience in electrical service work and an excellent driving record. Previous experience in the communications industry is a plus but not necessary.
Technician's perform a variety of cable and equipment installation tasks on assigned projects. Ensure appropriate equipment and supplies are available for projects and may provide supervision to apprentices relative to Company policies and practices. Must have 2 to 4 years experience installing, terminating and testing Category 5, and fiber optic cable. Successful applicants will have detailed knowledge of EIA/TIA wiring standards, and exhibit proficiency with basic testing equipment including the Category 5 certification cable tester.
Apprentice Electricians assist with the installation of both electrical and communications systems. Apprentices complete their On-the Job and Classroom Training over a four year period.
Training and Advancement
The Virginia Apprentice Council regulates the electrical apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship program is administered by the Department of Labor and Industry. Seacom is a registered sponsor of electrical apprenticeship in the state of Virginia. Apprenticeship training requires both on-the-job work experience and related instruction. On-the-job work experience is provided by the registered sponsor and is organized and systematic. Related instruction is designed to provide the apprentice with the theory and technical knowledge related to the electrical trade. Local vocational technical schools, the sponsoring organization, or the local community college may provide related classroom instruction to apprentices. A registered apprentice completes a minimum of 2,000 hours of supervised on-the-job work experience in the occupation of electrician. and a recommended minimum of 144 hours of related instruction for each year of apprenticeship. Monthly meetings and training sessions provide the opportunity for employees to develop detailed knowledge of EIA/TIA wiring standards and practices, learn cable testing and documentation procedures, and receive advisements on company employment and operational policies.
Advancement or Promotion is contingent upon successful completion of on-the-job and classroom training, demonstrating the ability to adhere to company policies, and to perform, on a daily basis, beyond the essential duties of your current position.
