Cabling Systems

Cabling is most likely the least expensive of the costs of any communication system—about 10% of the total cost—and has the longest life cycle of any system component. Servers, routers, switches, computers, and other peripherals make up the remaining 90% of the network cost.

Even so, some people give low priority to proper network cabling, assuming it is identical to electrical cable: once attached it works. This is not true. Network cable is highly sensitive and professionally-installed network cable can make a huge difference.

Different names for cabling include: Information Transport Systems (ITS), structured cabling, premise cabling, Category 5, Category 6 and 6A, fiber, or cabling. By any name, cabling is the foundation of your communication system and needs to be done right…the first time.
